What Connects You to the Fashion Industry?
A general grasp of the concept that "fashion" and "style" are wildly disparate. Oftentimes fashion is the most accurate barometer of a political climate, its social mores--societal norms, customs, virtues or values. That's why fashion is fleeting: the Industrial Revolution, Dior's "New Look" in response to the end of WWII, HippieModPunkPost-PunkMaximalistLogomaniaExcessiveCommandingAndDemandingMinimalist.. highly significant moments in the human condition's interminable umbilical cord.
Style, however? When it's done well? Style saunters by society's prevailing customs, trends and etiquette with an awareness—and an individual flair. Personal style asserts itself fearlessly, though this by no means declares it an affront: take the visionary style of Isabella Blow, who herself was always a vision; the incendiary self obsession of Comtesse di Castiglione; the body-as-canvas approach of Leigh Bowery; the new-before-there-was-a-"New Romantic" style of Steve Strange.
Then there's styles of writing: Burroughs, cummings, Faulkner—as well as contemporaries of the Neo-Narrative: Dodie Bellamy, Kathy Acker, Dennis Cooper.
Styles of architecture, styles of painting...rather than continue rattling on, why don't I leave it at this: Merely an opinion, yes—but mine is that one's personal style has the ability to change history, the world as we know it.
Fashion is the "trickle down" of these disruptive moments. A single individual has the power to change consumer buying power, to define that 'Jackie O' archetype that's endlessly replicated, as is the 'Audrey Hepburn,' the 'Dita von Teese,' the 'Anna Wintour'...
And whether in literature, music, painting, sculpture, architecture, philosophy: it's a symbiotic relationship that requires keen observers to take note.
Part of what makes me a fashion person is that astute sense of observation by someone like Valerie Steele; another part, a dash of the mischievous Rochester who—through his dress and writing—could never cease going beyond the boundaries, the established parameters; and a pinch, perhaps, of Wilde's ostentatious presentation and inimitable wit.
But more than anything? What makes me a 'fashion' person is a statement I won't make myself. If by chance you ever hear someone describe ______ as "that's so Clint!"?
Then that. There.
I'm not delusional enough to think I've created a wrinkle in our timeline:
Let alone the resplendent slash I esteem...
I want to burn burn burn down the night, grasp its inkiness by my fingertips,
Polish the stars.

Hear me out: It's not always "good"... but it's good that it always isn't.

I am the Britney Spears of the keyboard-DAMN! blob meant to be "blog".
(Or maybe blob was more accurate?)
intellisexuality- not "lalala"- I think I am going crazy, slowly-mayhaps it is the yellow wallpaper?
btw I am so beyond puking at all the Mormon Church adds on non-religious, cool sites! Maybe they add them whilst checking out satanic sites they need to "save" us from . . .
Gawd! Why do I try to blob when I am bleary=eyed? I just noticed both typos, and I think I'm beyond any chance of edit--and you tactfully just spelled it correctly and gave me a kudo, as well!
Maybe tags is incorrect comp. vocab.--I was googling fashion designers, and I also like to check out cult and/or indie stuff-usually movies. And I came across this. I really wasn't expecting much--so it was a delightful shock.
I make most of my computerland discoveries that way--including finally figuring out how to delete (dilute?-evil laugh) bookmarks. New computer--still Mac but 6 years' difference in programming. (Instruction book? More like "You are here"-Period.")
btw Did you see the trailer for Burton's "Alice in Wonderland"? Opens Mar. 5th, 2010. I cannot even speak--you just have to see it.
A woman has her mysteries--you know that "clint, a cult of his own"--I may have a lot more to learn, but when the tags McQueen, Galliano & Westwood come up--I'm there like a housewife to soap operas!
Thank you, luv, for some nice word slangin' in my direction lately! I am just on one long fantasia about you, me, alone, with pens, fine papieri and books=intellisexualality!

While visiting PROUD FM last week, we got the opportunity to talk with Carol Pope! She is a Canadian singer-songwriter who always went against the grain. She's been active in the music industry since 1968! Carol would perform in leather & bondage attire in 1975, working along with other glam rockers such as, our favorite, David Bowie! We talked to Carol about fashion, her latest release Landfall and her working experience with Rufus Wainwright. Check out the video below! By Carcia…See More
